Lunch Programme
For many children in Kenya, having a school lunch is the difference between getting an education and not.
The need to prevent and address hunger in the Rift Valley is as pressing as ever, as the climate crisis drives alarming levels of food insecurity and rising inflation pushes up food prices. Our daily lunch programme is a lifeline for hungry children - it boosts school attendance and performance through giving children a delicious, nutrient-packed meal that will fuel them throughout the day. Our daily hot lunch feeds all the children across our network of partner schools who, in the absence of any government funded programme, would otherwise go through the day learning on an empty stomach.
We launched the programme in November 2015 at Kahuho primary school, feeding 350 pupils. We now deliver over 30,000 meals per month.
LUNCHBOX
Our lunch programme is supported by donations from our ‘lunchbox’ contactless terminals which sit in cafes across the UK. Each contactless tap is a £1 donation - enough to pay for three children to have school lunches for a week.
These are more than just meals – they provide the energy and sustenance a child needs to keep a child in the classroom.
Each Tap really makes a difference.
So far, we have:
Rolled out the lunch programme in 5 primary schools
Fed over 1,800 children lunch every day for six years
Provided more than 2 million meals since 2015
